Consumers should generate their own electricity and become 'prosumers'

© zstockphotos – [[www.123rf.com 123RF.com]]</span>Eskom's inability to provide the country with a reliable supply of electricity is mainly due to many years of insufficient maintenance of its aging coal-fired power stations, a crisis with the supply of coal in sufficient quantities and with the right quality to the power stations, and major design flaws in the two new mega power stations, Medupi and Kusile. South Africans should be allowed, and in fact encouraged, to generate their own electricity.
